Al-Miqdād and those who were with him used to milk their sheep and drink their portion of milk, then they would leave the portion of the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) until he came to drink it. So, when he would come at night while they were sleeping, he would give greetings (Salām) in a moderate tone that would not wake the sleeping person up, whereas it would be heard by the ones who were awake.

• A man said: O Messenger of Allah, when a man amongst us meets a brother or a friend, should he bow to him? He said: No. He said: Should he embrace and kiss him? He said: No. He said: Should he take his hand and shake it? He said: Yes
• The one who is riding should greet the one walking, the one who is walking should greet the one sitting, and the small group of people should greet the large one
• Do not initiate the greeting of peace to the Jews or Christians, and if you meet one of them on the way, force him to narrowest part thereof
• When one of you arrives at a gathering, he should say the greeting of Salām. He should also do so when he wants to depart, for the first greeting is not more meritorious than the last
