Ibn ‘Abbās (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) slaughtered two rams for Al-Hasan and Al-Husayn when they were born, for each one. This indicates that it is legally permissible to have an ‘Aqeedah for newborns.

• A child is held in pledge for his ‘Aqīqah which should be slaughtered on his behalf on the seventh day after his birth, and he should be given a name, and his head should be shaved
• The Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) commanded them to slaughter two similar sheep for a boy and one sheep for a girl (at their birth)
